Til ke Laddu(Sesame sweet balls)

Laddu is the Indian word for any ball-shaped sweet. Laddu is made with all sorts of ingredients from fruits and vegetables, to grains ! This particular dessert is especially popular during winter months as sesame as thought to have heating properties!

A festival celebrated in the mid winter, the food prepared for this festival are such that they keep the body warm and give high energy. Laddu of til made with Jaggery (Gur)is specialty of the festival.
I made til ke laddu today as tomorrow is Makar Sakaranti.Here's how I make Til Ke Laddu...

Ingredients:

4 cups sesame seeds
1/2 cup water

1 1/2 cups brown sugar or powdered jaggery

1 cup grated coconut

1 tablespoon cardamom powder

Method:

1.Dry roast the sesame seeds in a heavy bottom pan until light brown in color.

2. Make powder of half the roasted sesame seeds in blender.Boil water with brown sugar or jaggery and make a syrup on low heat.

3.Add grated coconut ,cardamom powder and simmer until syrup becomes thick and sticky. Turn the heat off.

4.Add sesame seeds and mix well. Allow the mixture to cool down.
Shape into balls quickly.

5.If you like you can add chopped almonds,pistachio and cashew to it.
